My weekend treats were in Atlanta - Saturday lunch at The Varsity (a staple when I was growing up in Hapeville and my dad worked at one of the downtown fire stations) and The Pig and The Pearl in the (newish) Atlantic Station development. P&P was good -- not the best smoked meat I've ever had, but good.

J. Christopher's, for breakfast I had their smoked turkey eggs benedict and for lunch I had the Waldorf chicken salad with goat cheese and raspberry vinaigrette.
Also had a Baldwin Dipper at the Pantry.

You know, the Belcourt is closed and these lamestream movies are redundant. Can't they show something outside of the middle class comfort zone?

I guess I got into a very Wedgewood and Houston mindset this weekend. Friday night I picked up a burger for an early dinner at Gabby's.

Carbs aren't the problem - the way you're eating them is the problem. Really well works for me eating low carb for most of the day, and then allowing a 'reward meal' every evening in which I could eat pretty much whatever I wanted, carbs included, as long as it was reasonably balanced.

Actually the dude abideth ate what was left of an uneaten Eggs Benedict and a chicken salad off of other guests tables until we called Metro. While being booked the dude ran into his mother Mrs. Rogers who was being booked for solicitation.

We are still fumigating the dining room from the stench the dude abideth revelator left behind.

As a longtime resident of Joelton, I always swore that if anyone ever opened a decent restaurant near me, I would do my part to support it. We ate at Chelsea Bistro weekly.

1. Why aren't more casual dining (and upscale) Nashville-area restaurants open for lunch?

2.

Jeni's new Atlantic Beach Pie is the best thing I've tried in a long time. Long-ago Mayfield had something called banana fudge chunk that was incredible.

We processed a bakers' dozen peaches this Memorial Day- enough for a batch of our favorite no-cook ice cream and a bonus cobbler. Fresh peach ice cream right up there with Ben&Jerry's pre Nabisco boycott Cookies and Cream and Capt. Charlie's Reef Grill (Juno, FL) cinnamon ice cream.

For homemade ice cream, it's this Villa Cherries Gelato: http://lesleyeats.com/2010/07/16/villa-che…

Grocery store-bought, probably Talenti Sea Salt Caramel, Karamel Sutra from Ben and Jerry's, or So Delicious Cherry Amaretto.

Ice cream store-bought...hrm, that's a tough one. Movie Star by Pied Piper Creamery (lemon ginger) or Pistachio & Honey by Jeni's, or Simply Southern by Comfy Cow (chocolate chip pecan pie with a hint of bourbon).

well yall know im always off topic. I prefer alternatives to ice cream because they tend to have less aftertaste and don't leave me thirsty.

I had three tacos, carne asada, fish & the speciality taco of the day - pulpo, (octopus.)

Best octopus I ever had, it was tender.

All good except the carne asada was salty.
