I feel like the Brussels didn't live up to the hype, but I got the soup not expecting much and was completely blown away. Quite possibly the best soup of my life.

Just got back from lunch there. Had the short rib sandwich and the kale salad.

@Westendrail I agree that it was a good article, but I actually enjoy most of what McInerney writes, though I'm partial to his fiction. I think he is a gifted storyteller.

I've heard that Chef Osteen is at Missions Hospital in Asheville, but will hopefully be moving to a rehab facility soon.

How can you talk about Pho-like dishes without mentioning VN Pho & Deli right off of Charlotte? The BEST and so affordable.

I'd also like to add that The Grilled Cheeserie makes some amazing soups that change monthly based on seasonally-available produce.

The entree build your own soup at Smiling Elephant is one of my favorite dishes in Nashville. Choose a noodle, protein and broth.

Is the chicken noodle soup at Thai Esane the same as the chicken noodle at King's Market? Because, I dream about that chicken noodle soup at King's Market.

Great piece, I didn't know about the place in the Gulch.

I think the star at Thai Esane is the wonton soup.

A close second is the green curry noodle soup. It has a coconut milk base.

I found Thai Phooket's wonton interesting too.

Got introduced to Cab Franc two years ago on a trip to Charlottesville, VA. While Virginia is not France, they were pretty good and easy to drink. Bad thing is, only a tiny % makes it out of the state.

Ridley,

You may be surprised to know this but this reader couldn't care less about the state of your anatomy (and why the death of David Bowie would have any impact upon it is something you need to share with your shrink- not your readership). You've been in the business long enough to know that terms such as 'miserable, 'sad', 'disheartening', 'demoralizing' or even 'soul draining' would have worked just fine but instead, you went out of your way to be needlessly and graphically profane in what was supposed to be a food review.

Ever since being forced to order a "Rose Nylund" BY NAME from a mysteriously Golden Girls-themed cocktail list in Washington DC, I've had an almost chemical allergy to "funny" menu names. This joint might be a tough hurdle for me, unless I can just point and grunt.
