Re: Is Hillsboro Village still cool? The neighborhood has a rich restaurant history but could be losing ground as a trendsetter.

Hillsboro Village is so much over. (Except for the Belcourt), it is a dead place for robotic up-class consumers to be fleeced, and the pseudo-up-class hucksters who fleece them.

I'm interested to see if it actually hits the high notes of the ORIGINAL GHG in food and atmosphere, vs the misbegotten 2nd incarnation next to the movie theater.

Seeing the pictures float across my social media this weekend, I really wanted one of those biscuits.

It's too bad they couldn't re-open in the newer building on their old spot. Kind of like how I used to wish Bricktops would fold so that Houston's could reclaim their West End spot (in a new building, of course).

I miss Houston's ribs and their roast chicken.

I thought Houston's had the best service too.

That was a well expedited kitchen.

Just googled the menu. Even allowing for inflation, most of the prices are way out of line for the area.

I suppose it is a testament to how many great restaurants there are now in Nashville, but as I look at that menu I have to think I won't eat there. I used to go to the old one (back in the day) and I remember how popular it was, and I seem to remember liking the food quite a bit.

I have to agree with Lanier. My barometer for price point is usually the ribeye steak and/or the salmon salad.

If it was so cool to start with, then why did Bosco's and Sunset Grille close? Why can't anything stay in the space that used to be a Brazilian steakhouse, then hookah bar, now ???

My wife and some friends went to the invitation only soft opening last Fri. The bar was great with righteous drinks and good service.

I'm sorry to say my experience was similar to others here. I was very underwhelmed by the food and service.

@JRSmith & @TL Ferrell,

I agree and that is part of my premiss of possibilities. As competition increases, the pressures it creates on proper business management exposes weaknesses.

BW- carniceria San luis on harding pike has great tamales. They're around $4 each and huge!

Shannon, thanks for pointing that place out! I've driven by their smoker before and wondered.

However, those tamales look to be the size of dinner plates!

Probably one of the worst coffee shops in Nashville; the staff was very rude and took 15 minutes to make regular coffee and espresso with milk (yes that's how it's called on their menu, not a "latte") who also didn't know how to pronounce the name of their pastries (that were stale by the way). They also poured every drink in a plastic to go cup (even though I ordered my coffee to dine-in), and when I asked for a regular cup, the bartender (who didn't know how to pronounce "madeleine" correctly) rudely said:" well we close at 5pm, so we start pouring our drinks in plastic cups past 4:30pm".

@Oscar, @War, what do your vague generalities mean? If you think Myers is a corporate tool for Gannett, prove it.
