Can't remember the last time I went to Hillsboro Village for anything other than the Belcourt. That wasn't the case 3 years ago.

"We didn't take out a density map and say, 'We need a Taziki's here.' Instead we looked at our portfolio and decided what would fit best for the neighborhood."

Just like the article outlines new businesses are coming in and duplicating businesses Hillsboro Village already has... ie.

I hear you d-ham, you could probably hit the Kalamata's behind Belmont with a rock from the old Sunset Grill.

Taziki's is not a bad restaurant, just not a great choice for the area.

I hope the Owner tells this guy why the business declined. They used to have a great lunch buffet 4 -5 years ago and a lot of business lunch traffic for companies in the airport area.

Food Network should budget in some money to pay helpers. Corporations that take advantage of people's willingness to help for a good cause are a special kind of despicable.

Consider Pizza Perfect, a mob scene at lunch, and Kay Bob's, owned by the Pizza Perfect folks and a local unique concept. Remember Cuisine of India?

If your concept of cool is a neighborhood catering almost exclusively to the Pinterest life-style brand yuppie millennial housewife crowd, then yes. Hot Yoga AND Jeni's all in the same generic retail development?

Don't forget venture-capital backed, would be Starbucks chains ("but for the South!") that market themselves off as "from New Orleans" (but are based in Birmingham, probably the least cool city on Earth).

So yeah, no, Hillsboro Village is not heading in the right direction.

I though it was an audacious move for Revelator to move into a place right across from Fido, which has a pretty solid following. We'll see if that works out for them.

What's with that Sports Bar-That-Isn't-Sams whose walls look like a Best Buy showroom on a coke binge?

I never go there except for an occasional Fido breakfast fix. I do shop at Davis Cookware occasionally, that guy and his son are amazingly peculiar but have everything.

Now that Sunset, Bosco's and Sam's are all gone - and that's pretty hard for me to believe - I really can't think of a reason to go there anymore. Maybe an occasional Villager or McDougal's visit, but that's about it.

The answer is clearly no....we need to find a way to support more unique local start-ups and expansions in Nashville. Chains have a place...but not when they take things over.

Its a shame what is happening to the Village. At least the Villager is still holding on.
