Been to The Perch many times, excellent crepes and other offerings. Ideal for breakfast through late lunch.

Mario, I have thought of you many times over the years, and ironically just a few days ago. I wish you, well, running that big restaurant in the sky.

She IS great on the mic, on the fly. Too bad she doesn't have deeper material to work with here...

I'm B--the compensation is already built into the food. Does that make me a cheapskate?

I respected Mario's passion for food and wine-- Nashville was so far behind other cities that for many people, Mario's epitomized fine dining. It was definitely the power dinner of the 1970s and '80s.

I don't generally tip for takeout, but I am much more likely to do so at a neighborhood place where I regularly get takeout (particularly if a family-owned hole-in-the-wall).

i guess it's cheap but i kind of have an issue tipping more than a dollar or two if i have to stand in line to order, pick up my food, if disposable plates/utensils are used, and/or bus my own table. do you tip at restaurants at the farmers market (AM/PM excluded since they offer table service)?

If its a local establishment I'll throw in a buck. I also try to pay/tip in cash at locals so the staff has something to take home at the end of the day.

Spaghetti Factory was our go-to dining destination when I was a freshman in college. It was cheap, it was tasty (for 1980-81), and it was essentially the only thing downtown open after dark other than Printer's Alley and the porn shops on Broadway.

For me, never at Starbucks the rare times I go there, always about 10% at my usuals and local/family-run spots serving real food. The usual genuine smile and thanks given in return is worth a few bucks.

I always tip at coffee shops and when getting take-out. Always.

I worked at a trendy but over-rated restaurant, not in Nashville. Delivery tips were generally 20%.

Nicki... at lots of places the delivery side is compensated at waitstaff wages, but handles your takeout order. At Domino's or whatever, there is no waitstaff, but at a real restaurant, your phone order takes time that the restaurant expects customers will supplement with tips.

I generally tip 20% on takeout orders. Like Jack, 20% is my base line tip for dine-in service — great service (or particularly obnoxious behavior from my roommates, ages 2 and 5) gets more, shitty service gets less.

I do this because ... a) I'm just that kind of guy; b) I was once a restaurant dishwasher who also had to clean the bathrooms and try not to forget that; c) it's a lot easier to remember to just tip the same way all the time?

@Grubby - Delivery is a whole different ballgame from takeout. I always tip well for delivery...

Were you by any chance publicly extolling the virtues of this pork chop sandwich before the W. Kamau Bell show on Wednesday night? Because I'm getting a real sense of deja-vu here.
